These helper verbs go before the main verb and never change: muốn (want), cần (need), phải (must), có thể (can), biết (know how to), nên (should). To negate, put không before the helper: Tôi không thể đi.

Tips: Use biết for learned skills (biết bơi) and có thể for possibility or permission.

Tôi muốn học tiếng Việt.
I want to learn Vietnamese.

You need to rest.
